What is a pre-authorized (pending) transaction?
It is a pre-authorization that places a hold on your card for a specified dollar amount based on a projected sale amount. For example, pre-authorizations are often used for fuel purchases (pay-at-the-pump), hotel room security holds and rental cars. Typical release times range from 16 to 31 days. Releases occur automatically after the specified time period by transaction type and/or industry.
How can I have the pre-authorization released early?
If you wish to have the funds released sooner than the typical period, you may request a letter from the merchant stating that they are not going to complete or take the charge (Please Note: Merchants are not obligated to provide release letters). The letter must be written on official letterhead or should include a company logo. The merchant must send the letter to customersupport@dcbank.ca. Once we have the letter as proof, we can manually release the transaction and add the funds back to the available balance.
